The Apple iPhone 5 hit the market back in September 2012, and instantly became the California based manufacturer’s latest best selling smart phone. With widespread critical acclaim and millions of sales under its belt, the success of the iPhone 5 has naturally led to plenty of speculation about its follow up device.
Of course, Apple launched the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4S, following the release of the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 4 respectively. This has led most people to think that the next version will be called the iPhone 5S, despite the fact that there’s been some rumours about the next model being a lower cost version or even an iPhone 6.
Further evidence that the next model will be an upgraded version of the iPhone 5 has recently been revealed, after GSM Arena has reported on leaked photos of iPhone 5S components. The images show that the handset may have already in production, and like previously upgraded iPhone models, appears to have the same design and size as the current model. The images show the aluminium casing of the iPhone 5S side by side with the current iPhone 5. It looks like the phone will have an almost identical appearance, with the same size as well as the layout of the home button, sensors and front and rear cameras. The website comments that the only feature which appears to have changed is a redesigned flex cable, which feeds into the display and digitizer, suggesting that the internal components will change.
Rumoured upgrades to the iPhone 5S include camera components and a more powerful processor, but we of course expect the handset to utilise the recently announced iOS 7 software update, which will perhaps be its most significant change.
