Launched back in September 2012, the Apple iPhone 5 remains one of the most popular smartphones on the market. Its commercial success, coupled with the fact it has now been available for several months has of course led to widespread speculation about Apple’s plans for the next instalment of its iconic smartphones series.
In recent months, there has been an increasing amount of speculation that Apple will be launching a couple of new iPhone models this year. These are believed to be a new budget iPhone model, along with an upgrade to the current version called the iPhone 5S. While Apple is yet to officially announce these devices, there has particularly been plenty of speculation about the launch date of the iPhone 5S, with many suggestions that the device will hit the market as early as this summer.
Phones Review has recently reported that this now looks very likely, as Sharp has begun manufacturing displays for the iPhone 5S, which are reportedly the same 4 inch LCD displays as the current iPhone 5 model.
Of course, previous upgraded iPhone models like the 3Gs/4S utilise the same screens as their predecessors, so it certainly fits in with the pattern of previous upgraded iPhone models. This also makes it safe to assume that we can expect the iPhone 5S to include more processing power, an upgraded version of Apple’s iOS platform and upgraded camera specifications. A number of other component suppliers have reportedly also received orders from Apple to begin manufacturing components the iPhone 5S. These include the likes of Sony, Hitachi, LG Display and Toshiba.
With production of iPhone 5S components underway, this certainly coincides with claims that the device will be announced as early as next month, so we can expect plenty more news about the device to be revealed in the near future. As usual, we will report back to keep you posted with the latest updates.
