In 2007, Apple launched its first iPhone model. Each following installment of Apple’s now iconic smartphones series has clocked up record breaking sales figures for the California based manufacturer, which remains a dominant force in the mobile phone market. The current iPhone 5 model of course remains one of the most popular smartphones the market, having clocked up impressive sales figures in a matter of days after its launch back in September.
The fact that the iPhone 5 has now been on the market for a number of months, combined with its commercial success has led to plenty of speculation about what Apple has in store for its iconic smartphone line in 2013. In recent months, rumours have suggested that Apple will be launching as many as three new iPhones in 2013, including an iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and a budget iPhone model. More recently though, speculation suggests that this may not be the case, with reports that the iPhone 6 is highly unlikely to be launched this year. Additionally, GSM Arena has also recently reported that the iPhone 5S model is likely to be subject to delays to its launch, which is likely to result in the fall in Apple’s profits for the first time in over a decade. GSM Arena explains that there are several contributing factors which may lead to delays to the launch of the iPhone 5S. These include supply chain issues, increasing costs of components, and increasing popularity of devices from rival manufacturers. Furthermore, the demand for cheaper devices like Apple’s iPad Mini and the rumoured budget iPhone model, coupled with increasing component costs is likely to severely affects Apple’s profit margins.
Of course, rival operating systems like Android and Windows Phone are becoming increasingly popular, which also poses a challenge for Apple which of course exclusively uses its own iOS platform on its mobile devices.
The Apple iPhone 5S is yet to be officially announced, so there is little information available regarding its features and likely price and availability. However, we can expect more information about this to be revealed in the coming weeks, so we will be sure to keep you posted when we hear more.
